Two exceptional shipments from Malpensa to Singapore for Dhl Global Forwarding

Dhl Global Forwarding - and in particular the Italian team of Dhl Industrial Projects - has in recent months been at the centre of an exceptional shipment from Malpensa to Singapore, with final destination in Indonesia, precisely on the island of Karimun.

The cargo transferred by air consisted of a valve and two actuators, with a total weight of 111 tonnes. Handled with an Antonov An-124, with a maximum capacity of 105 tonnes, the operation therefore required two flights, carried out on 5 and 9 September.

Several, the company points out, were the challenges faced in sending the cargo, which was destined for a natural gas plant. The first was the urgent nature of the shipment, which was only commissioned on 13 August. The loading on an An-124, Dhl Global Forwarding continues, also requires an equal distribution of weight on board, made possible by the use of lightweight supports - so as not to add additional weight - which were made by a specially selected supplier. The handling phase, handled by Alha, also required a specific effort, as the crane present at the airport did not have sufficient capacity. Two tandem lifting cranes were therefore used.
As mentioned, the weight of the load then required two separate flights from Milan to Singapore: with the first one, the first valve (weighing 51,190 kilos) was transported to its destination, while with the next one, the second part was shipped, together with the actuator (for a total of 59,840 kilos). On the way, the aircraft made technical stops, mainly for refuelling, in Dubai and Sri Lanka.

‘This project made us particularly proud, because it allowed us to highlight the great engineering and organisational expertise of DHL Global Forwarding's Industrial Projects team, thanks to which it was possible to complete the required shipments, planning and following each phase with extreme precision,’ said Andrea Rimondini, head of Industrial Projects at Dhl Global Forwarding Italy.
